# Clear the Buffer

Clear the [Messages view](https://docs.intrepidcs.com/vspy-3-documentation/3.9.12/vehicle-spy-main-menus/main-menu-spy-networks/messages-view) buffer by pressing the **Erase** button on the Messages view [top toolbar](https://docs.intrepidcs.com/vspy-3-documentation/3.9.12/vehicle-spy-main-menus/main-menu-spy-networks/messages-view/messages-view-top-toolbar) (Figure 1).Tapping [predefined function key](https://docs.intrepidcs.com/vspy-3-documentation/3.9.12/shared-features-in-vehicle-spy/shared-features-predefined-function-keys) **F3 then C** will also work.\

Clearing the buffer also resets the [buffer progress display](https://docs.intrepidcs.com/vspy-3-documentation/3.9.12/vehicle-spy-main-menus/main-menu-spy-networks/messages-view/messages-view-buffer-display/buffer-progress-display) and removes any suppression of activity highlighting caused by the [Reverse Engineering button](https://docs.intrepidcs.com/vspy-3-documentation/3.9.12/vehicle-spy-main-menus/main-menu-spy-networks/messages-view/messages-view-top-toolbar/reverse-engineering).\

**Caution**: Clearing the Vehicle Spy message buffer is immediate and cannot be undone!
